Comments: A large section of street lighting on the Harbour Arterial, Pitts Memorial Drive, is affected by a electrical malfunction which is currently under repair. Watch for crews working roadside. Drive with care and caution and reduce speed during dark conditions. Expect repairs to be ongoing over the next several weeks.

2 Bridge Rehabilitation Blackhead Road Overpass on Route 2 Pitts Memorial Drive between Downtown St. John's and Kilbride (Project #80-11PSR) Ongoing May. 15, 2012

Comments: West bound lane between downtown St. John's and Kilbride reduced to one lane for bridge repairs. Signage directs lane closure with a speed reduction. Equipment and crews working in Blackhead Road overpass area. Drive with extreme care and caution and be prepared to stop. Expect slowdowns and use alternate route if possible. Expect short delays while work continues over the next couple months. Eastbound lane closure also expected to occur week of May 21st.

Comments: Road bed construction continuing for extension of Team Gushue Highway. Construction activities occuring adjacent to Topsail Road, Blackmarsh Road, Pennywell Road, and Redmonds Road/Georges Pond Road. Crews and heavy equipment operating, truck hauling operations across throughfares. Blasting occuring possibly several times daily during day light hours. Use extreme caution in these areas and obey posted signage.

Comments: Men and equipment working in Kenmount Road and Team Gushue Highway and on road sides for guide rail installation and fill placement adjacent to the existing Team Gushue Overpass on Kenmount Road. Construction signage in place with occassional traffic interruptions and flagpersons sometimes directing traffic. Expect occasional delays and slowdowns. Use extreme caution in the area. Obey posted signage. Construction expected to be completed by approximately May month.

20 Torbay Road from RCAF Road to new Bypass Road intersection on Torbay Road. Road upgarding and paving including road widening to 5 lanes, curb and gutter and storm sewer and sign installation. (Project #124-09THP) Ongoing May. 04, 2012

60 Kenmount Road and Topsail Road overpass. Structure replacement and road upgrading. Major Traffic Diversion on Kenmount Road in place for bridge replacements. (Project #44-10TSG) Ongoing May. 09, 2012

Comments: Construction restarted on Topsail Road overpass replacement. Major traffic diversion for bridge reconstruction. Kenmount Road rerouted to intersect with Topsail Road with traffic light control while new overpass construction ongoing at old overpass location. Topsail Road traffic returned to under new overpass construction. Some interchange ramps remain closed with detours while traffic diverted to intersection with Topsail Road from Kenmount Road. Tight turms for large vehicles with narrow roadway restrictions. Obey posted signage and proceed with extreme caution. Use alternate routes where possible and expect moderate traffic delays while work continues throughout the 2012 construction season.

About the Report

This report provides information on highway construction and maintenance slow down areas that could affect the motoring public.

It covers the major arteries in all regions of the province, and is updated bi-weekly (during the construction season April - November) or when there is a significant change in operations for a particular project.

The report will continue until the end of the construction season.
