In 2006, Newfoundland and Labrador reported 6,689 motor vehicle collisions, a slight decrease of 3.2% from 2005. Reportable motor vehicle collisions in Newfoundland and Labrador represent all collisions resulting in personal injury or death or involving $1,000 in property damage.

1996-2006 Collision Fatalities

1996-2006 Traffic Fatalities

In 2006, there were 37 fatalities as a result of traffic collisions in Newfoundland and Labrador. Of these, 29 were drivers and passengers, 6 were motorcyclists and 2 pedestrians. Of the 29 driver and passenger fatalities, 14 were identified as not wearing a seatbelt.

1996-2006 Traffic Injuries

Personal Injuries reported in 2006 are slightly below the injuries reported in 2005. Of the 2,185 injured, 149 were seriously injured drivers or passengers. 49 of those seriously injured drivers and passengers were identified as not wearing a seatbelt.

1996-2006 Vehicles Registered

The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador experienced a slight decrease in the number of motor vehicle registrations in 2006. The province had a total of 548,190 vehicles registered in 2006. A decrease of approximately 1% from 2005.
